Aside from the many meetings and constituency issues that I deal with every day, speaking in the House of Commons Chamber is a hugely important part of the job. So being able to make my maiden speech was a special moment for me and a particular pleasure given it was on the centenary of the very first maiden speech of a female MP, Nancy Astor. I spoke about the privilege it is to be the MP for our wonderful constituency, with its historic towns of Hertford and Ware, beautiful countryside and the strong sense of community we feel. I was also able to discuss some of the challenges we face due to the unprecedented level of house building we are experiencing.
I am sorry that Barclays Bank has decided to close its Ware branch. I have been liaising with Barclays to ensure that customers are kept informed and assisted with the change and am also working with Ware Town Council to ensure that we maintain and improve the town’s high street. Barclays will be hosting a ‘Tea and Teach’ session at 29 High Street, Ware branch on 1st April for customers (and non-customers) between 10:00 am and 14.00 pm. If you would like any advice whatsoever on the changes or how to access things like mobile banking, please do go along.
I am delighted that we will be getting a new police station in Ware – this is something I first raised with David Lloyd, Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner during the General Election campaign and it is great news for our police and our residents.
