Hertford and Stortford MP Julie Marson has welcomed eight schools and colleges in her constituency receiving government cash to improve their buildings and facilities.
The eight have all been awarded money by the £498 million Condition Improvement Fund (CIF).
They are some of the 1,405 projects at 1,129 academies, sixth-form colleges and voluntary aided schools to receive money to address issues such as poor building condition, building compliance, energy efficiency and health and safety.
Hockerill Anglo-European College, Summercroft Primary School, Presdales School, The Sele School, Northgate Primary School, Richard Hale School, Simon Balle All-Through School and Manor Fields Primary School all went through rigorous assessment to get the cash.
“I am pleased these educational establishments will get this money to help improve their buildings and estates,” said Mrs Marson.
“It is vitally important for pupils’ learning that they have the best facilities and that includes buildings that are fit for purpose and well maintained.
“I am looking forward to hearing more details of the work that will take place and I hope to see some of the improvement first-hand during my many regular visits to schools across Hertford and Stortford.”
The education secretary Nadhim Zahawi said CIF also supports a small proportion of expansion projects for Ofsted rated good or outstanding academies, sixth-form colleges and voluntary aided schools that need to expand their existing facilities to either increase the number of admissions in the main year of entry or address overcrowding.
The fund was heavily oversubscribed so only those projects that demonstrated a high project need and aligned with CIF priorities have been funded.
