The war in Ukraine continues to hold the world’s attention and the Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme has now started to swing into action.
I have been liaising with the Home Office to raise specific cases so that Ukrainian families can move to Hertford and Stortford and to safety as soon as possible.
In an even more distressing development, evidence is emerging of Russian war crimes against civilians. The UK government has been clear that if this has happened then those responsible will face justice.
Ukraine has moved the media spotlight away from Covid but the virus remains and infections have risen.
The Government has made it clear we must learn to live with the virus now we have effective vaccines and much better treatments. But ministers are not complacent and there remains a need to protect the most vulnerable.
I am really pleased people aged 75 years and over, residents in care homes, and those aged 12 years and over with weakened immune systems are now eligible for a spring Covid booster jab.
The booster can be given six months after the last dose and everyone should wait four weeks before having the jab if they have tested positive recently.
You can call 119 or book an appointment online at www.nhs.uk.
Please step forward and have the jab if you are called. The vaccines have reduced deaths and serious illness. Doing so will protect you and others and it will allow us to live with this disease.
