As I have previously said, I share the anger of many of my constituents at the events at 10 Downing Street during lockdown when, like me, they were following the rules.
I welcome the apologies from the Prime Minister and the Chancellor, and their acceptance and payment of their fixed penalty notices. I support them in carrying on their jobs, providing leadership in tackling the serious domestic issues we face, and the war in Ukraine.
Yesterday I and my colleagues supported referral of the issue to the privileges committee. The Prime Minister says he has nothing to hide and so a parliamentary investigation gives confidence to the British public and it is right that the Government allows this.
