It has been an important few weeks for me in Parliament.  First, I made my maiden speech, which was daunting but incredibly enjoyable.  And I made it on an auspicious date – the centenary of the first ever maiden speech given by a female MP, Nancy Astor.

Julie's Maiden Speech in the House of Commons

As a policeman’s daughter, I was delighted to make my maiden speech in the Police Funding debate yesterday. Exactly 100 years after Lady Astor made hers. I spoke of Hertford, Sawbridgeworth, Ware, BishopsStortford and my family's journey from the workhouse to Parliament.
