About Me

I was born in Barking and brought up in Chadwell Heath in Essex.

My father was a police officer and my mother, the daughter of an East End docker, was a factory machinist.  I attended my local primary school and went on to Woodford County High, a girls’ grammar school.  From there I won a place to study History at Downing College, Cambridge.

I worked in senior roles in banking in the City of London and also in business for around 16 years, primarily in relationship management with major corporate clients in the UK and Europe.

I served as a magistrate for ten years and was inspired by that experience to enter local politics as a District Councillor, joining the Shadow Cabinet and becoming Shadow Deputy Leader.

I stood in the European elections in 2014 on a platform of holding a referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union, and campaigned for Vote Leave in the Referendum of 2016.

I stood in the General Elections of 2015 and 2017 for Dagenham and Rainham, the constituency in which I grew up.

It was the greatest honour of my life to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Hertford and Stortford in December 2019.  I have known this area all my life and I am committed to serving the local people of Hertford and Stortford, to ensure we maintain our vibrant towns and villages, our natural environment, have high quality housing and services, particularly health and education, and great jobs for our young people.

In Parliament, I serve as Assistant Government Whip.

I am keen to use my experience in business and finance to promote local businesses and am also determined to protect our beautiful landscape and environment.

I have a property in Sawbridgeworth and am thrilled to represent the great people of Hertford, Bishop’s Stortford, Ware, Sawbridgeworth, and our villages.
