Why have prices increased so much?
Rising prices are a global problem. Increased energy costs, a shortage of goods and services and the fallout from Covid are considered just some of the main reasons.
Why have energy prices in particular gone up so much?
Energy costs have soared because the conflict in Ukraine has reduced supplies of Russian gas to the rest of the world. The demand for energy has also skyrocketed following the end of Covid.
What has the Government’s response so far been?
The Government has acted quickly to introduce a wide-ranging package of support to individuals, households and organisations across the UK and Hertford and Stortford.
This is vital to help everyone in our local community cope with the huge rise in global energy prices.
What are you, as my local MP, doing to help?
This is a challenging time for many in Hertford and Stortford, and I remain committed to supporting them.
I recently held a cost of living surgery for vulnerable constituents and continue to hold others regularly. My casework load also remains ongoing.
I have also created a guide to the cost of living support available, in the tabs on the left.
I continue to use my position on the Treasury Select Committee and speak with ministers in the meantime to ensure local people, businesses and other organisations keep receiving this support over the coming months.
My office and I remain ready to help.
