Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a great way to climb the ladder of opportunity by earning while you learn. An apprentice is employed by a company, with a contract and annual leave, and, by the end of the apprenticeship, they are equipped with the skills needed for their future career. A majority of apprentices are offered full-time work at the company they do their apprenticeship at, showing how they are valuable employment tools.

It can take between one and six years to complete an apprenticeship, depending on which one you choose, what level it is and previous experience. It is funded from contributions made by the Government and your employer.

Levels of Apprenticeships

Each apprenticeship has a level and an equivalent education level. You can start an apprenticeship at any level.

Depending on the level, some apprenticeships may require previous qualifications, such as an English or Maths GCSE, or give extra training in the English or Maths skills needed.

At the end of an apprenticeship, the apprentice will achieve the equivalent education level.

Level Equivalent Education Level

Intermediate 2 GCSE

Advanced 3 A level

Higher 4, 5, 6 and 7 Foundation degree and above

Degree 6 and 7 Bachelor’s or master’s degree

A number of apprenticeships are offered across our community. To get started, Hertford Regional College is a great post-16 setting for apprenticeships.
