I share the disappointment of many Hertford and Stortford parents at the OFSTED and CQC Inspection Report into SEND provision in Hertfordshire. It is right that the local partnership have accepted the report's findings and have apologised to the families that did not receive the support they need and deserve.
I will monitor the action plan that Hertfordshire County Council will be submitting on the 19 December. I welcome the announcement of £5 million extra investment in statutory SEND services and the creation of 1,000 new SEND school places. It is reassuring to see that these urgent improvements will be driven in partnership with Dame Christine Lenehan, who has 35 years experience supporting and advising on practical improvements that champion the rights of disabled children and young people.
I've personally invited the Children's Minister to come to Hertford and Stortford to raise the need for urgent improvements in SEND provision in Hertfordshire. I will carefully monitor the progress of Hertfordshire's action plan and will continue pressing for better support for children and young people across Hertford and Stortford.
