"It was humbling to be in the House of Commons this evening at such an historic moment.
"President Zelensky spoke movingly as a leader, as a father and as a Ukrainian fighting for his country and his way of life.
"He was dignified and he was Churchillian and it was very moving. I do not believe there was a single MP who did not feel for him but they also recognised someone who is not going to give up in the face of tyranny.
"The UK stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine. We continue to give aid, we continue to lead the way on sanctions. We are offering other support too and giving help and refuge to those fleeing the bloodshed.
"I hope this appearance by a hero president in the mother of parliaments will give the Ukrainian people a morale boost. He deserved the standing ovation he was given.
"It also gives a very clear message to Putin: you’re not welcome and get out of Ukraine."
