Our local shops and entrepreneurs need all the support we can give them. That’s why I’m doing everything possible to make sure we can support them as a community, like overturning the obstructive one system on Ware High Street to make it more accessible for everyone. And now I’m teaming up with the Google Digital Garage to work with aspiring local entrepreneurs and provide them with new training and skills, to bring greater opportunity to Hertford and Stortford.
Every child deserves the best start in life. That’s why I’ve worked with local residents to secure commitments from companies like Sky and Amazon to ‘turn on the subtitles’ and make sure our children have more at-home learning opportunities. Now, I’m working with Hertfordshire County Council to secure more school places and investment for specialist education support in Hertford and Stortford, so that all children in our community have the chance to succeed.
I understand how important it is to protect our villages and green spaces. So, I’ve taken action to see the planting of more trees locally to plan for the future and worked with Thames Water to see the local sewage systems cleared to improve flooding problems. I’ll continue to oppose reckless quarry-building, and continue lobbying for a clamp down on rural crime, so that we can protect our rural communities.
Our roads and railways are overstretched. This is why I’ve listened to your concerns about the Rush Green Roundabout and secured a stress-tested plan to fix it. I’m also working with our Police and Crime Commissioner to install an average speed check system on London Road in Hertford Heath, so that our roads are safer for everyone. Now, I’ll continue to lobby for the ‘four tracking’ of our railway line, to make your journeys quicker.
Our NHS has been put to the test more than ever over the past year. I’m continuing to work with Rob Halfon MP to deliver the new Princess Alexandra Hospital to provide our community with a healthcare campus that’s fit for the future. I’m also working with Wallace House Surgery to support their move to a new building right in the heart of Hertford, making care more accessible in our community.
I know the past year has been tough for everyone. That’s why I became the first MP to host a digital Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair during the pandemic, and now plan to host a physical one this year on an even bigger scale, to give everyone in Hertford and Stortford greater access to the opportunities they deserve.
